As the OregonDucks are preparing for their semifinal showdown with Indiana, the college football calendar keeps going.

The transfer portal officially opened today, and even the Ducks, who are two wins away from their first national championship, is not immune. Redshirt freshman tight end Cade Katon, a 6-foot-5, 250-pounder from Manvel, Texas, announced he will enter the transfer portal and continue his career elsewhere.

He appeared in one game in 2024 and in four games this season, but didn’t garner any stats.

As a consensus three-star recruit, Katon was rated as the No. 63 tight end prospect according to 247Sports and was viewed as the No. 69 tight end recruit nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. He was also rated as the No. 21 tight end recruit nationally by ESPN as he hauled in 39 receptions for 447 yards and six touchdowns as a senior in 2023.

The move isn’t a shocking one, as the tight end depth chart is as deep as it ever has been at Oregon. Even with Kenyon Sadiq expecting to go on to the NFL, the Ducks will still have Jamari Johnson and Roger Saleapaga available for 2026 as well as the likes of Zach Grace and AJ Pugliano from Medford.

Oregon also just signed five-star and Top 20 prospect Kendre Harrison out of North Carolina as well.
