The Oregon Ducks struggled in Week 2 of the 2026 season, falling to the Oklahoma State Cowboys 39-31.
Oregon entered the game as the sixth-ranked team in the country, and they were expected to come away with a major win. However, Dan Lanning's team struggled mightily, and with their loss, they have dropped to 21st in the latest AP Poll.
It will now be an uphill climb for the Ducks to get back on track and reach the College Football Playoff. Oregon made it to the College Football Playoff Semifinal in the 2025 season, losing to the eventual National Champion Indiana Hoosiers.
The Ducks then had many star players return to the program for the 2026 season, including quarterback Dante Moore. That led to Oregon starting the season as the second-ranked team and a favorite to win the National Championship.
However, over the first two weeks, the Ducks have been nowhere near the level of a contender.
They narrowly escaped with a Week 1 win over the Boise State Broncos, which should've been a wake-up call, but they struggled more in Week 2 against Oklahoma State.
Moore had a rough game against the Cowboys, completing 14 of 29 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He missed many big throws and couldn't help the offense reach its max potential.
The defense was even worse as they allowed Drew Mestemaker to complete 26 of 43 passes for 317 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Wide receiver Wyatt Young was the leading weapon for Mestemaker, as he had five receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Caleb Haskins was also strong on the ground as he rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
If the Ducks' defense struggles in the first two weeks against Boise State and Oklahoma State, it will be even more challenging when they take on other top teams in the Big Ten.
Lanning and Oregon will look to get back on track in Week 3 in a matchup against Portland State.
