Recruiting season is officially back and this 2026 class is set to be a special one. The Oregon Ducks have already received verbal commitments from a number of intriguing prospects, with one of the best being 5-star safety Jett Washington. He hails from Las Vegas, Nevada and made a name for himself in the high school circuit at Bishop Gorman, where he has been drawing attention from since his freshman year.
Washington is also the nephew of the late Kobe Bryant.
Washington is the No. 22 ranked recruit in the nation, but he is first among all safeties. He has the potential to become a prototype at the position, with a 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame that evaluators believe will only get bigger. Washington is a physical, hard-nosed safety, who reportedly has the ability to play coverage over top as well as dropping down in the box.
He has improved greatly over his four years of high school and scouts are ecstatic to see how he progress here in Eugene.
Clear for takeoff.

Jett Washington Position Outlook
It’s hard to say whether Washington would get consistent playing time right away with the roles for next season so unclear. For now, though, I’d say it would be hard to keep a defender off the field with such elite traits and such high upside.
Oregon Safety Depth Chart
The Ducks have a good, young safety room, so Washington may have to wait his turn if the guys currently on the roster have a say about the depth chart next year. However, safeties with Washington’s size and athleticism only come around so often, so he could very easily earn himself a starting job or significant contributing role if he has a strong summer. The position doesn’t appear to be locked down for the future, but surprises can happen at any time.
Oregon 2026 Class Outlook
Going into the Early Signing Period, the Ducks are expected to sign a fourth-straight top-10 class, and there’s a good chance that they ink another top-5 class, challenging for the best signing class in program history yet again under Dan Lanning. While Oregon may not have the size of class that we’ve seen in the past, pushing 30 recruits, it does rank as the best in the nation when it comes to the average rating of recruits. The Ducks focused on quality of quantity this cycle, and they’re bringing in a handful of the best players in the nation as members of the 2026 class.
