It wasn’t easy, but the Oregon Ducks went on the road on Saturday afternoon and got the job done against a good Iowa Hawkeyes team in a wet and ugly game.

Oregon needed three field goals from kicker Atticus Sappington, including a game-winner with three seconds left in the fourth quarter, to keep its 8-1 record and stand firm in the College Football Playoff mix. It was the biggest win of the season for the Ducks, and one that will likely strengthen their resume in the postseason picture, though that won’t become a major factor should they win the remaining three games on their schedule.

On Sunday morning, the US LBM Coaches Poll was released, and the Ducks held firm at No. 6 in the nation, behind the likes of Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M,Alabama, and Georgia.

Notably, the Hawkeyes fell out of the top 25 with the loss.. They were ranked No. 24 in last week’s Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Going forward, Oregon now has a short week, turning around quickly to play a Minnesota Golden Gophers team that enjoyed a bye in Week 11. After that, Oregon plays the USC Trojans at home, before facing the Washington Huskies on the road.
