The Oregon football team has received yet another commitment from a legacy recruit and the son of recent College Football Hall of Fame inductee Haloti Ngata.
Sam Ngata, a three-star Class of 2027 linebacker from Salt Lake City, on Jan. 24 committed to play for the Ducks, the same day he took an unofficial visit to Eugene.
He’s the seventh-best prospect overall in the state of Utah and a top-600 national recruit, per 247Sports’ Composite rankings.
Ngata’s commitment is yet another from the child of a former Duck great, with the most recent before Ngata being quarterback Akili Smith Jr., who recently finished his true freshman season.
Ngata attends Olympus High in Utah and stands 6-foot-3, 215 pounds heading into his senior season. The Ducks offered Ngata in late November.
His father, Haloti, played for Oregon from 2002-05 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December. In 35 career games he finished with 151 total tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and seven blocked kicks for the Ducks before becoming a five-time Pro Bowler during a lengthy NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.
