Oregon HC Dan Lanning Making Confusing Statement About Season Prep

The Oregon Ducks should come into the regular season motivated to finish after suffering a 56-22 blowout to Indiana in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl in January.
The loss to Indiana came one year after Oregon lost 41-21 to Ohio State in the CFP quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl, ending what had been a promising year for the Ducks when they won their first Big Ten championship.
Because of the way the Ducks have been blown out in the CFP, Lanning has been unfairly compared to former Penn State head coach James Franklin, who famously struggled against elite college football teams.
While Lanning has been able to win his fair share of big games with the Ducks, the staff has left a lot to be desired when it comes to preparing for elite teams in the CFP.
With a roster that should compete for the national championship this year, it would make sense for Lanning to make changes to how he prepares his team.
During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday, Lanning suggested he wouldn't prepare his team differently despite having higher expectations.
“You spotted it, man. That’s always the conversation,” Lanning said about having national championship expectations this season. “You know, I think we’ll approach it similar to how we have in the past. Let’s go out there and have the best team we can possibly have.
"I always love this part of the year because it means we’re getting close to playing football games, and I know our guys are excited for that. We’re ready to start fall camp. I really like this team. We had a really talented team last year. Now we have some experience coming back, and I’m excited to see that experience turn into some success on the field.”
With two new coordinators (OC Drew Mehringer, DC Chris Hampton), the Ducks should try to shake up how they prepare for the upcoming season.
Oregon has more talent on its roster than they have in the past, and they need a new game plan for how to attack some of the better teams in the CFP.
