Oregon in the mix to land reclassified 2027 5-star WR Eric McFarland

After reclassifying to the 2027 class on Wednesday, five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland revealed that the Oregon Ducks are in the mix in his recruitment.

McFarland was apart of the 2028 class, but stayed back during Covid-19 while in middle school. He now rejoins his original class.

“This is where I am supposed to be,” McFarland told Rivals. “This has been on my mind since my freshman year, so I have been preparing for it with recruiting. I have offers, I have been taking visits, and everything just moves up a year and moves a little faster now. I want to get on visits, talk to coaches, then make the decision on where I want to be.”

The highly-rated recruit made a number of gameday visits this fall, with a trip to Eugene and checking out the Oregon program among them. Alongside the Ducks in the mix for his recruitment are the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes and Georgia Bulldogs.

McFarland’s gameday visit to Oregon came at an unfortunate time, as the then-No. 3 Ducks lost to the No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers. Despite that, he says he still enjoyed his time and made connections.

“Oregon lost to Indiana when I was there, but I had a great time,” he said. “They’ve always been a good school, and I have a good connection with coach (Ross) Douglas. It was nice to meet Dan Lanning when I was up there.”

McFarland, standing 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, is the No. 5 wide receiver and No. 23 overall player in the 2027 class.

With his reclassification, the turnaround will be quick for both Oregon and the other programs in the conversation to land a commitment from McFarland in the coming months.
