Though the Oregon Ducks are preparing for the College Football Playoff, they’re among just 11 other teams doing so. For the rest of the country, it’s transfer portal season.
With the recent quarterback developments of transfers Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel and now Dante Moore, Oregon was sure to be brought up as a destination for talented portal passers. Though the transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Jan. 2, players are already announcing their intentions of departing from their respective programs and putting themselves on the market.
Just this morning, each of Florida’s DJ Lagway, Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola and Arizona State‘s Sam Leavitt, all talented underclassmen quarterbacks, announced their intentions of entering the portal.
It’s not even the evening yet on Monday and the Ducks have been floated as a transfer option for the latter two, with On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos listing four early schools to watch for Leavitt specifically.
Alongside Oregon are the Indiana Hoosiers, Miami Hurricanes and LSU Tigers.

The Ducks may have an upper hand on the other programs for one simple reason: Leavitt is an Oregon native, as he grew up in the Portland area and began his high school career at Westview, played in Utah for his sophomore campaign during Covid, before playing his senior season at West Linn.
He was the 18th-ranked quarterback in the class of 2023 and a four-star recruit, eventually committing to Michigan State. He was never offered by Oregon despite being the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior.
Leavitt appeared in four games in 2023 for the Spartans, utilizing his redshirt before transferring to Arizona State. He won the job out of fall camp and led the Sun Devils to a Big 12 title and the College Football Playoff, claiming the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award along the way.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2025, Leavitt and Arizona State entered with high expectations. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder saw a bit of a dip in his production, going 5-2 as a starter and completing 60.7% of his passes before his season was cut short due to a foot injury that required surgery.
He was then reportedly a no-show at the Sun Devils’ end-of-season banquet, with head coach Kenny Dillingham wishing him well despite no report that Leavitt was intending to enter the portal at that time.
Now, Leavitt is on the market with the Ducks seemingly among his potential options.
With buzz increasing that Moore could declare for the 2026 NFL Draft at season’s end, as he’s widely projected to be a top five prospect, Oregon could quickly have a need at the quarterback position.
With Raiola reportedly interested and Leavitt being listed as an early school to watch, it will be an interesting next month or so while head coach Dan Lanning and his staff evaluate the quarterback situation.
