Football took a backseat for a moment on Saturday night during a heavyweight clash between No. 20 Oregon and No. 12 USC. When Oregon star quarterback Dante Moore’s head hit the turf in the first half and he stayed down for nearly 15 minutes, it became clear that his well-being was the most important thing.
Thankfully, after the Ducks knocked off USC 41-27 on Saturday night in Los Angeles, Moore got some good news on the severity of his injury on Sunday morning. The star quarterback is dealing with a concussion but does not have any additional injuries and is expected to return this season, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Moore took the scary hit on a scramble where he slid to protect himself, but USC defender Desman Stephens II still hit him and knocked him out of the game.

The star quarterback opted to come back to Oregon this season after turning down the NFL Draft, where he almost surely would have been a top 10 pick. Instead, he came back to chase a championship in Eugene and improve his draft stock even more with sights set on being the No. 1 overall pick in 2027.
However, while this update is still great news for Moore, he is still expected to miss time given the severity of the injury. In the meantime, Dylan Raiola will continue to fill in as the starting quarterback.
Raiola was excellent in relief on Saturday night, and in a way it was the Ducks’ reward for investing in an experienced backup quarterback in the transfer portal. The Nebraska transfer finished 19-of-25 with 289 yards and two touchdowns, leading Oregon to a two-touchdown win in a game that was tied in the fourth quarter.
Running backs Dierre Hill Jr. and Jordon Davison also picked up the slack with Moore out, combining for 238 yards from scrimmage.
Oregon has a week off in Week 5, so Moore will have two weeks to rest before the Ducks’ next game. Dan Lanning and company will take the field next at home against UCLA on Oct. 10.
