Oregon football made a run to the College Football Playoff semifinal last year. Now, Dan Lanning and Dante Moore are looking for more. Moore shocked the college football world by spurning the NFL Draft and returning to college.
Now, rival coaches have high expectations for both Moore and the Ducks, according to a poll of coaches done by The Athletic.
Of the 17 coaches polled, six of them voted that Oregon would win the national championship.

“I think this is the most wide-open race we’ve had in college football in such a long time. I’ll say Oregon. Dan Lanning has continued to get better and better, and this is the year he cracks through,” one ACC coach said.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame and Ohio State both got three votes, while Texas got two. Georgia, Indiana, and Miami all got one vote.
The coaches surveyed also like Moore to win the Heisman Trophy. Moore took nine of the votes, while Jeremiah Smith of Ohio State was second with four votes.
“I’m really curious to see if Dante Moore gets better and what (Darian) Mensah does at Miami in that offense. He played a lot within himself at Duke. Did a good job taking care of the ball. I’ll say Moore because he’s gonna have a lot of marquee games,” one Big 12 GM said.
Smith is the best receiver in the nation and could win the Heisman, but if Moore can lead the Ducks to an undefeated season, he could easily walk away with the award.
The debate between Ohio State and Oregon can be settled on the field this year. The two schools will face off on November 7 in Columbus.
