Texas A&M’s 2025 season ended prematurely, at least according to most, as the Aggies failed to get past Miami, falling to the Hurricanes 10-3 in the first round of the College Football Playoff last Saturday, despite playing inside a sold-out Kyle Field. Immediately moving forward, head coach Mike Elko is focused on adding talent from the transfer portal.
With starting quarterback Marcel Reed set to return for his redshirt junior season, his late struggles, which included seven turnovers, have worried some in the fan base, but sticking with Mike Elko’s post-game focus on the issues along the line of scrimmage, replacing three starting offensive linemen, and several defensive linemen, is mandatory to improve next season.
However, Texas A&M’s quarterback room will look very different even with Reed’s return, as third-string quarterback Jacob Zeno will depart, and sophomore Myles O’Neill has yet to announce whether he’ll return or possibly enter the transfer portal. With incoming freshman QB Helaman Casgua and likely freshman Brady Hart guaranteed to be on the 2026 roster, adding one more signal caller is likely on Mike Elko’s to-do list.
On Saturday afternoon, a former recruiting target announced his intention to enter the transfer portal, as Oregon sophomore quarterback Austin Novosad will leave the Ducks after two seasons. Serving as Oregon’s backup QB this season, the Dripping Springs, Texas native attempted just two passes for 40 yards, and is much too talented not to at least compete for a No. 2 or starting job going into his third year.
Novosad was very high on the Aggies during his recruiting process, taking several visits to College Station during the 2022 offseason before signing with Oregon. Throwing for 2,911 yards and 39 touchdowns during his final high school season, Novosad possesses the size and arm talent to immediately spark competition for the backup job and place some pressure on Marcel Reed to improve this offseason.
Austin Novosad is also the son of two Texas A&M graduates.

Was extremely high on Texas A&M as a prospect. Would be a very good addition to the room to spark some competition. https://t.co/YGLVkkNnAH
