So far, it seems like the second weekend of official visits couldn’t have gone much better for the Oregon Ducks. After scoring commitments from three-star George VanSandt and three-star Malachi Garlington, the Ducks also made progress with some of their top targets.
One of those big targets is four-star Bode Sparrow, who stars as both a wide receiver and safety in Kaysville, Utah. The Ducks were the last of Sparrow’s finalists to secure an official visit, but they made the most of it.
“The official was great because I was able to spend so much more time with the coaches, the staff, the players on the team and the other recruits,” Sparrow told Rivals. “I was able to get a better feel for the people and place and that was huge for me. They really treated me well and showed how much of a priority I am for them.”
Sparrow was hosted on his official visit by Oregon freshman receiver Gatlin Bair. Although the Ducks are recruiting Sparrow for his defensive skills in the secondary, he connected with Bair well to simulate the environment of being a Duck in Eugene.
“Gatlin is a great dude,” Sparrow said. “I enjoyed being around him and the other players on the team as well. You can tell it’s a real brotherhood among the players and they all have a common goal.”
Oklahoma has long been the frontrunner for Sparrow, but the Ducks seem to have made a strong enough impression to at least make the safety think a bit harder about his decision. The No. 2 athlete and No. 59 overall player in the class, per Rivals, spent time with defensive coordinator Chris Hampton and coach Dan Lanning during his visit and established some important connections.
“I think the people at Oregon is what really makes the place special,” Sparrow said. “We did some fun things, my favorite was the football talk, talking Xs and Os and then seeing how well we could apply it. Coach Lanning gave a great talk about leadership as well and I really enjoyed listening to him.”
Oregon was Sparrow’s second official visit, following Oklahoma. He will wrap up his tour of visits in his home state with Utah (June 12) and BYU (June 19). Sparrow has received multiple predictions to land with the Sooners, but Oregon has certainly entered the race.
The Ducks already have four-star Semaj Stanford and three-star Malakai Taufoou committed as safeties in the 2027 class. Sparrow would be another incredible addition, with the potential to line up on offense as well.
