Oregon's Dan Lanning Predicted to Land 2027 WR Dakota Guerrant, Boosting Recruiting Efforts

The 2025 college football season is complete, shifting focus to 2026 and beyond. This also means concentrating on assembling the 2027 recruiting classes.

The Oklahoma Sooners hold the No. 1 ranked recruiting class, according to 247Sports. They are followed by the Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Syracuse Orange, which complete the top five. Meanwhile, the Oregon Ducks are looking to start gaining momentum with their recruiting efforts.

Dan Lanning’s team has only two commitments in the recruiting class, placing them at No. 35 in the national rankings. However, there is potential for improvement, as Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong has predicted that Lanning will successfully recruit one of the top players in the country.

The player in question is wide receiver Dakota Guerrant from Harper Woods, Michigan. Standing at 6-foot-1, he is ranked as the No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 55 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. According to On3’s prediction model, Oregon has a slight edge with a 51.4% chance of landing him, compared to a 37.2% chance for his home state team, the Michigan Wolverines.

The immediate effects of landing Guerrant would be significant for Oregon’s recruiting momentum. With Lanning’s 2027 class sitting near the middle of the pack, adding a top-60 national prospect would provide a much-needed jolt and signal that the Ducks are ready to reassert themselves in the early recruiting race.

From a broader perspective, Guerrant fits the profile Oregon has prioritized under Lanning: length, athleticism, and high-upside skill talent. Securing a prospect of Guerrant’s caliber would help close the gap on programs like Oklahoma and Texas A&M, which headline the 2027 rankings.

Looking ahead, Oregon’s focus will remain on building momentum throughout the spring and summer evaluation period. With official visits and camp circuits approaching, Guerrant’s recruitment could become a bellwether for whether the Ducks can quickly climb the rankings and position themselves among the nation’s elite in the 2027 cycle.
