Oregon's Dante Moore, Dan Lanning Receive Strong Preseason Accolades

With the 2026 college football season right around the corner, the Oregon Ducks continue to rack up preseason accolades heading into Week One.

After a miserable end to the 2025 season, it's clear that head coach Dan Lanning and his squad will be seeking revenge this year. And with all the hype surrounding the program, the Ducks are destined to receive plenty of recognition this season.

Earlier this week, Cody Nagel and CBS Sports released its preseason awards for the upcoming season, with multiple Ducks being amongst the top names.

Kicking off CBS Sports' preseason awards is quarterback Dante Moore, who was named the preseason Player of the Year ahead of the 2026 season.

"Moore could have been a top-five pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Instead, he walked away from nearly $50 million in guaranteed money for one more year in Eugene," Nagel wrote. "Coming off his first season as a starter, he finished top 10 nationally in completion percentage (71.8%), touchdowns (30) and passer rating (163.72), but he still has more to prove after Oregon's season ended in a blowout 56-22 loss to Indiana in the CFP semifinals."

Moore, after sitting behind the likes of former quarterback Dillon Gabriel in 2024, quickly became the centerpiece of the Ducks' offensive efforts last season. The highly-touted playmaker had six games of three or more passing touchdowns in 2025, while also possessing the 15th-best QBR amongst all qualifying FBS quarterbacks.

However, one of the main reasons for his return to Eugene was due to his lack of production in big-time games. Moore's two losses as Oregon's starting quarterback came at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers. In those matchups, Moore combined for 471 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, while completing 62 percent of his pass attempts.

If Moore can overcome his woes during big-time games in 2026, not only will he be a Heisman finalist, but a surefire top-five pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

In addition to Moore being named the Preseason Player of the Year, Lanning also received high accolades, being named the Preseason Coach of the Year.

"Since Lanning became head coach in 2022, Oregon is tied with Ohio State for the second-best record in the country, trailing only Georgia," Nagel wrote. "Both Ryan Day and Kirby Smart faced plenty of criticism early in their tenures for being unable to win the whole thing despite consistently putting their teams in position to do so. Now it's Lanning's turn to break through."

The main facilitator for the Ducks' recent success has been the efforts of Lanning and his coaching staff.

Throughout his four seasons with the program, the former Georgia Bulldogs' defensive coordinator has boasted a 48-8 record, along with a 17-1 conference record during his two years in the Big Ten. Unfortunately for Lanning, his last two seasons resulted in him getting knocked out of the College Football Playoffs by the eventual National Champions (Ohio State in 2024, Indiana in 2025).

This year, however, will be different for the blossoming head coach.

Oregon did an excellent job of retaining key starters from last season, while simultaneously using the transfer portal to address any holes. With one of the best rosters in all of college football heading into the regular season, Lanning has all the tools to bring home a title this year.
