James Madison entered the College Football Playoff as the ultimate underdog, a program with much to prove after it squeezed into the 12-team bracket without any signature wins to its name. You could say it is the Dukes versus the world in Saturday’s showdown in Autzen Stadium. Unfortunately for them, Oregon does not have an ounce of sympathy for this Cinderella story.

The No. 5 Ducks derailed James Madison’s carriage and sped up the clock to midnight during the opening round of the CFP. Potential NFL Draft prospect Dante Moore ended the suspense rather quickly, connecting with tight end Jamari Johnson for a 41-yard touchdown on Oregon’s opening drive. It only got worse from there, as the home team built a 34-6 lead before halftime. Yikes.

Everyone expected a massacre, and that is exactly what is transpiring in Eugene. Pundits, fans and other teams will lambaste the Playoff selection committee for allowing a clearly outmatched squad to pursue a national championship. While many fans accepted Tulane’s inclusion in the proceedings, few people are content with two Group of Five programs occupying a place in the tournament. Both the Green Wave and Dukes will watch their title dreams meet an unceremonious end.

College football legend Urban Meyer believes rules should be put in place to ensure that the most qualified Group of Five teams are awarded entry into the CFP. While the shot-callers sort all that out, Oregon is just worried about taking care of business in what will be its final home game of the year.

Dante Moore has thrown for three touchdowns and over 200 yards in the first half. He and the Ducks are cruising toward a quarterfinals matchup versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
