Blake Frazier was a relatively highly-touted offensive line prospect coming out of high school. Through two years at Michigan, he has flashed potential to be the next great left tackle at Michigan. However, he will have to earn it. This season, Frazier will look to take the reigns as a full-fledged starter.
The story so far
Frazier is one of a handful of Michigan football legacies currently on the roster. His father, Steve, played for the Wolverines in the ‘90s and blocked for one Tom Brady. He was also a national champion.
Blake was born in 2005 and grew up near Austin, Texas. A graduate of Vandegrift High School, Frazier was a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and was ranked No. 169 in the country. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds as a high school kid, he had the ideal frame that college programs are looking for.
Unsurprisingly, his offer sheet was lengthy. Frazier was offered by Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, and LSU just to name a few. However, it was clear that Blake grew up a Michigan fan despite living in Texas. Then offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore made Frazier a priority and secured his commitment in April of 2023.
As a true freshman in 2024, Frazier didn’t see any game action and took a redshirt. In his redshirt season in 2025, he appeared in all 13 games for the Wolverines. Blake started the season as a swing offensive lineman. However, due to injuries ahead of him he was thrust into the starting lineup where he started eight games.
His performance on the field was mixed but generally encouraging for being such a young offensive lineman. While he was by no means a star, Frazier still has three full years of eligibility remaining and certainly didn’t diminish his long term projections.
Frazier is now listed at 6-foot-6 and 295 pounds. He was also named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree this past season.
Outlook moving forward
With some veterans now out of the program, it is full steam ahead for Frazier to grab control of a starting spot along the offensive line. Assuming Jake Guarnera slides over to center and Evan Link shifts inside to guard, the left tackle spot is up for grabs. Frazier will likely start fall camp as the leader in the clubhouse for the position.
Blake has hit the weight room sufficiently to be at the requisite size for a left tackle in the Big Ten. He is also very agile for a man of his size. Assuming he stays healthy, he will certainly see the field early and often this season.
However, the offensive tackle group is loaded with talent, arguably the most talented position on the roster. Frazier will have the likes of Andrew Babalola (once healthy), Malakai Lee, and Marky Walbridge pushing from behind. While I expect Frazier and Andrew Sprague to be the starting tackles for Michigan against Western Michigan on September 5th, that is by no means set in stone.
Regardless, Frazier appears to have a very bright future ahead of him in Ann Arbor. He is already playable in just his third year in the program and has several years of eligibility left.
