Oklahoma is expected to fire tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley, according to a report from SoonerScoop.com on Thursday.
The Sooners are expected to move on from the five-year position coach after a couple of years of lacking development at the position. OU fell to Alabama 34-24 in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 19.
Finley was hired by former Sooners coach Lincoln Riley in Jan. 2021. In 2024, he served as co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach and was offensive playcaller for the final six games after Seth Littrell’s firing.
Prior to his time as a coach in Norman, he served as passing game coordinator and tight ends coach at Ole Miss in 2020. He coached tight ends at Texas A&M during the 2019 season and at Missouri from 2016-18.
Finley was a standout tight end for OU. He was a four-year letterman and a member of the Big 12 championship squads in 2004, ‘06 and ‘07.
