NORMAN — OU football great George Cumby was named Wednesday to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class.
Cumby, who played linebacker and running back, will become the Sooners' 25th former player in the College Football Hall of Fame. He will be one of 18 former players and four former coaches inducted as part of the 2026 class during the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.
Cumby played at OU from 1975-79. He converted from running back to linebacker ahead of the 1977 season and earned three first-team All-Big Eight honors. He was also the 1978 and '79 Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-American in 1979.
The Tyler, Texas, native finished his career ranked second in Sooners history with 437 tackles. His five interceptions in 1978 are tied for the most by an OU linebacker in a season.
Cumby played eight years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.
