The Oklahoma Sooners, led by general manager Jim Nagy and head coach Brent Venables, have been putting together quite the 2027 recruiting class. No longer dealing with as much negative recruiting from rival schools after a six-win season in 2024, the on-field success for the Sooners in 2025 (10 wins and a playoff berth) has helped yield a strong commit list so far.
Both Rivals and 247Sports released new team recruiting rankings this week, and OU was still very near the top of the heap. As of Thursday, Rivals gives Oklahoma the fourth-best current class in the nation, trailing only Texas A&M, Miami, and Texas Tech. At 247Sports, OU is given the nation’s third-best current class, behind just Texas A&M and Miami.
Oklahoma currently has 22 total commits in the 2027 class, with 11 on offense, 11 on defense, and zero on special teams. It’s a class that has been re-shuffled a bit at a couple of positions after last weekend, but the Sooners still have one major official visit weekend left this weekend.
Of course, there’s still a long way to go before December’s Early Signing Period, but the Sooners could very well be on their way to their best recruiting haul in a long, long time. Nagy, working on his second class at OU, has made a big difference in Norman, and with Oklahoma finding a foundational identity under Venables’ leadership that’s already being instilled in the 110 total players the Sooners have on the current roster, OU has also been making waves on the recruiting trail with a strong statement up to this point in the cycle.
