Vanderbilt football flipped 3-star wide receiver Owen Cabell of Christ Presbyterian Academy from Alabama, per reports from 247Sports and Rivals on Dec. 3.
Cabell is 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds. He helps fulfill the program’s need for standout wide receivers that has dated back to the beginning of the Clark Lea era. He is the No. 630 player nationally.
Vanderbilt has now flipped two local players from blue-blood SEC schools after landing the country’s No. 1 quarterback, Jared Curtis, who was previously committed to Georgia.
Cabell had been committed to Alabama since June.
Before Curtis flipped, there were no other in-state players in the Commodores‘ class after wide receiver Keeyshawn Tabuteau flipped to Wisconsin. Tabuteau’s decommitment made getting another receiver more vital for Lea.
In-state players have been key under Lea, including Junior Sherrill, Langston Patterson and Bryan Longwell. Patterson is also a graduate of CPA.
