The decision to have Ole Miss and LSU’s upcoming football game happen at 6:30 on a Saturday night in September is not popular amongst the Oxford police department, who reacted to the news by using a GIF of Darryl from The Office.
For many, the decision to have the Rebels and Tigers face at 6:30 on Saturday, Sep. 19, is great. It’s a primetime matchup that marks Lane Kiffin’s first game against Ole Miss after ditching the program to join LSU.

The official Oxford police department’s X, formerly Twitter, reacted to the announcement with a GIF of Darryl unenthusiastically saying, “Yay,” in The Office.
Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss after joining LSU is the main storyline
The controversial way that Kiffin joined LSU will be the main talking point during the game against Ole Miss. He controversially accepted the job to coach the Tigers while the Rebels were heading into the postseason.
As a result, he wasn’t able to coach the Rebels during their playoff run. Pete Golding took the reins as the team’s head coach in his place. They lost to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, which served as the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
Now, Ole Miss will have a couple of weeks to prepare for Kiffin’s return. They will play Louisville and Charlotte in the opening weeks of the game before playing LSU. The Tigers will open their season against Clemson before playing Louisiana Tech.
Kiffin was the head coach of the Rebels from 2020 to 2025. He was there during the ascension of now-New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Earlier in his career, he had a long stint with USC. Kiffin was the coach of various positions before becoming the team’s head coach in 2010. Additionally, he had a brief run in the NFL, coaching the former Oakland Raiders, going 5-15 in the NFL as a head coach.
