The Carolina Panthers have added an interesting offensive weapon.
As announced on Wednesday morning, the team has signed tight end Heinrich Haarberg. The 6-foot-4, 237-pound rookie transitioned from the quarterback position, where he played a "Taysom Hill-esque" role for the University of Nebraska in 2023 and 2024.
A Kearney, Neb. native, Haarberg was a member of the Cornhuskers from 2021 to 2025. He began his stay in Lincoln as a quarterback, and did not appear in a single game between his first two years.
Then in 2023—under former Panthers head coach Matt Rhule—Haarberg took snaps as both a quarterback and tight end. Through the 2024 campaign, he caught four passes for 28 yards, rushed for 579 yards and six touchdowns and passed for 1,068 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Haarberg stuck strictly to tight end in 2025, posting seven receptions for 51 yards and a score.
To make room for Haarberg, the Panthers waived outside linebacker Jamil Muhammad.
