Paul Finebaum Again Unloads Criticism Directed at Clemson Tigers

The Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney came up well short of expectations last season. After entering the year considered as top-tier National Championship contenders, the Tigers barely even made a bowl game.

When all was said and done, Clemson ended up finishing the year with a 7-6 record.

Swinney is doing all he can to put the Tigers back on the map. He has had a very successful offseason on the recruiting trail. There are quite a few reasons for Clemson fans to be excited about the present and the future.

However, there are also questions that need to be answered. The biggest question mark facing the team entering the 2026 season comes at the quarterback position. No starter has been named yet, but both Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds are completely unproven.

With that being said, polarizing college football analyst Paul Finebaum has not been quiet about his criticism of the Clemson football program and Swinney. He unloaded yet again this week on the Tigers.

"[Clemson fans are] living in a finite period of time between 2015 and 2021 when Clemson was relevant," Finebaum said. 

"They're not anymore. They just can't get past it. Last year, I bought into the revival. [Cade] Klubnik, all of these great defensive (players). I had a friend who was connected to the program, and he said the defense was going to be the best in the country. I believed it. They were terrible. Nothing about that program is really worth promoting."

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions. At some point, however, there are times where some analysts have personal beef with programs. That seems to be the case with Finebaum and Clemson.

Despite his harsh comments, the Tigers are still one of the premier college football programs in the country. Even though the past couple of years have been tough, Clemson is more than capable of turning things around.

Finebaum's continued criticism simply adds more fuel to the fire for Swinney and the Tigers. It may not be this season, but Clemson is starting to get back on track from a talent perspective through the recruiting market and transfer portal.

Regardless of what Finebaum has to say, the Tigers are still a very marketable football program. Players still want to play for Swinney, who remains one of the best head coaches in college football.

Hopefully, the corner starts being turned this season. The season is set to begin on September 5 with a tough road matchup against Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers.
