Paul Finebaum calls LSU Tigers’ Lane Kiffin the ‘Kim Kardashian of college football’

For now, it appears the college football off-field drama has settled down. The SEC will not move to punish LSU at this moment, and the focus has mostly returned to the season. That doesn’t mean fans or the media have forgotten the baffling LSU Tigers’ part in all of this.

In fact, some are just getting things started when discussing LSU. College football analyst Paul Finebaum has been a massive critic of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin. Wednesday on the What A Day podcast, he compared Kiffin to Kim Kardashian in the college football world.

“First of all, Lane Kiffin is the Kim Kardashian of college football. Wherever she goes, or he goes, there’s destruction and carnage in his place. His history is too long to recall,” Finebaum said.

“It’s as simple as this: he was the head coach at Ole Miss last December, they were in the College Football Playoff for the first time. They had a shot at winning the national championship! And he walked out on them. It had never happened before, there’s no precedent for this, but he wanted a better job.”

Lane Kardashian?

There’s no doubt Kiffin loves to be at the center of attention and sometimes drama. Whether it is on camera, making cryptic social media posts, or just being himself, it seems to follow him everywhere he goes.

It’s easy to see where Finebaum can make that comparison. Kiffin has spent years becoming one of college football’s most recognizable personalities, often generating as much conversation away from the field as he does with his teams’ performances.

His coaching career has also included several high-profile moves and controversies, giving his critics plenty of ammunition. His decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU after leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoff only added another chapter to that history.

Whether one agrees with Finebaum’s comparison or not, Kiffin certainly fits the Kardashian portion of it when it comes to attention. Few coaches can generate as much discussion simply by making a move, posting on social media, or saying something unexpected.

Now, Kiffin possibly has the opportunity to change the narrative at LSU. If he can lead the Tigers to success, the off-field drama could become an afterthought over the course of time. Until then, expect his name to remain at the center of the college football conversation.
