ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes Lane Kiffin’s next stop, if he departs Ole Miss, is likely Gainesville.

While on The Opening Kickoff podcast, the longtime SEC insider said Kiffin would view Florida as his “first choice” among potential openings, including LSU. There no indication the Rebels coach is even entertaining any openings at this time, but the rumors are swirling.

Finebaum explained that Kiffin has elevated Ole Miss into a consistent contender, but  lure of Florida’s resources and national championship history might be too strong to ignore. Especially with how down Florida has been and might make an above market offer.

“I think Florida would be Lane Kiffin’s first choice if he leaves,” Finebaum said. “Now, I tend to believe he’s going to leave. He went on to say, "Oxford’s a great place. Nobody’s saying it isn’t, but I think Florida is a better job long-term.”

Finebaum was far less complimentary of the LSU situation, calling Governor Jeff Landry’s heavy-handed role in the hiring process a “circus” that could deter top candidates.

Nonetheless, the four SEC openings at Florida, LSU, Auburn and Arkansas will be attractive for top coaches. Whether or not Kiffin jumps in the ring remains to be seen right now.
