ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum is not as high on the Georgia Bulldogs as most other members of the media. Finebaum does not think that Georgia is the best team in the SEC entering the 2026 college football season.
Finebaum disagreed with some of the key rankings in the AP Poll. He thinks the Oregon Ducks should be No. 1 with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Ohio State Buckeyes not far behind.
"Oregon should be No. 1," Finebaum said on SportsCenter. "Let me go ahead and get that off my chest."
Finebaum adds that "Notre Dame ought to be higher" than No. 4. He thinks the Fighting Irish "are getting a little bit of disrespect" from the poll and "could easily be No. 1" in the country. Finebaum views Notre Dame as a second potential No. 1 team.
"I think Oregon and Notre Dame are the two best teams," Finebaum declared. He went on to add that he disagrees with how the voters ranked the best SEC teams.
"Texas, to me, is better than Georgia," Finebaum said. He would not have ranked the Bulldogs as the No. 3 team. At a minimum, Finebaum would have ranked Georgia behind Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas.
"They got it wrong by putting Georgia in (the top-three)," Finebaum said. "Georgia is now the new Alabama. It doesn't matter what we think. They're just going to be ranked in the top three."
Georgia will look to prove Finebaum wrong this season. The Bulldogs open their 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Tennessee State.
