Paul Finebaum Reveals Where 'Everything Seems to Be Pointing Toward' For Lane Kiffin

The Lane Kiffin watch is in full effect. Kiffin is the head coach of the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels (10-1). He has the team poised to make its first College Football Playoff this season.

This season marks the fourth time in the last five years that the Rebels have achieved double-digit wins. The three consecutive seasons with double-digit wins are the most in the program’s history. As the team prepares for the Egg Bowl against the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-6) to conclude the year, coaching rumors are beginning to circulate.

Kiffin has been considered for the coaching positions at both the Florida Gators and the LSU Tigers. However, BetOnline has removed those jobs from its list of options. During an episode of “The Matt Barrie Show,” ESPN’s Paul Finebaum discussed the direction Kiffin is likely headed for the next season.

“Ole Miss has not played at the highest level lately, but they’re getting by,” Finebaum said. “Lane Kiffin is the story right now. As the week unfolded last week, the Kiffin rumors started going crazy. We’re not here to discuss rumors, but you could not avoid it. Everybody seems to know something. He’s going to have a difficult time these next couple of weeks dealing with it because everything seems to be pointing toward Florida.”

Kiffin’s contract with Ole Miss is effective until December 31, 2030. According to USA Today, he earns an annual salary of $9 million and has the opportunity to earn up to $2.6 million in bonuses during the 2025 season. If he decides to leave Ole Miss, he would need to pay the university $4 million before the end of this season and $3 million thereafter.

With the Egg Bowl looming and Ole Miss still alive in the CFP hunt, Kiffin must navigate both championship pressure and escalating outside interest, a balancing act that may determine whether his historic run in Oxford continues or reaches its turning point.
