Penn State Avoids Newest NCAA Disaster After Big Ten Makes Official Ruling

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the rest of the Big Ten avoided the newest and likely craziest scenario to date in college football.

Former Ole Miss tight end Nae'Quan Wright and lineman Zxavian Harris both competed in their respective NFL training camps this August before both hitting the transfer portal and committing to play for their old head coach, Lane Kiffin, at LSU.

Yes, that is a true sentence. Two NFL players were granted another year of eligibility and went from making plays on a preseason football field to suiting up for the LSU Tigers. 

Just completely bizarre stuff, but the Big Ten put the end to it nearly right away.

These two transactions became official on Monday for both players. On Tuesday, the Big Ten responded with a swift and complete decision to put an end to this.

It was reported in the early morning that the Big Ten was meeting on Tuesday to finalize a plan. Then, by early evening, it was reported that the Big Ten's ruling was official, by unanimous decision. 

The rule in the conference is that no players will be allowed to return to college football from the NFL. If the rule is violated, the result is a suspension in 50 percent of the contests, and an institutional fine will be imposed.

There are harsh consequences for one of the craziest rulings in the history of college athletics. 

This era of college football has been jam-packed with questionable decisions and questionable rules. From unlimited NIL money to no-transfer rules to super conferences to the extended playoff, it has all been pretty crazy, but this takes the cake.

It is no surprise that the coach at the center of it all is none other than Lane Kiffin. Kiffin has always been one to push the limits of every ruling and then cry for mercy when the world turns on him. 

No surprise that was the exact play he ran in this scenario. 

Regardless, it was very good and impressive that the Big Ten stepped in as swiftly as it did. The dam was cracked open by these two transfers, and if it burst, it would continue to make college football one of the craziest sports of all time. 

For Penn State, the impact is nothing. It's not like they are already in a cupcake conference that needs more solid players. Nope, they are in the best conference in the world, and it is hard enough.

Thankfully, no NFL players will be playing in the Big Ten. A tip of the cap to Tony Petitti and all of the member schools that made the correct decision.
