Penn StateDB Elliot Washington II plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That news comes on Thursday morning as reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

“BREAKING: Penn State DB Elliot Washington II plans to enter the @TransferPortal, he tells @On3Sports, Fawcett posted this morning. “Repped by @PrioritySports & @EASAdvantage

Washington has spent the past three seasons as a reserve corner in Happy Valley. That’s with 36 games played, with just one start made in that time in their secondary, while with the Nittany Lions.

In his career there, Washington has posted 53 tackles, 1.5 of those being for loss, with nine deflections and two interceptions. That includes 18 tackles, a tie for a team-high with three deflections, and one of his picks, which was one of only a handful that was intercepted by their defense this year, in the dozen games he played in this past season as a junior in University Park.

A Venice, Florida native, Washington played his high school football at Venice. He ranked as a Top-175 overall player there as a four-star in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He also rated as a Top-20 cornerback in the class and as a Top-40 player out of the state of Florida. That’s according to the Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, Washington was one of the top signees for the Nittany Lions in what was a Top-15 class for them in ’23, according to Rivals’ 2023 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Washington is now to be one of the first losses for Penn State to the NCAA Transfer Portal. That’s as the Nittany Lions are preparing to deal with a second window in their year specifically, as a month-long one opened during the season at the time of the firing of James Franklin, with the program having since hired his replacement in Matt Campbell, and the next is set to open for the rest of college football in January.

Washington had been a productive depth piece in the secondary during his time at Penn State. He’ll now look to spend his senior season elsewhere, though, with his intention being to have his name in once the portal window opens on January 2nd.
