Penn State has its quarterback for the 2026 season. Former Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht has reportedly committed to Penn State out of the transfer portal.

Becht will fill an immediate need for Penn State upon his arrival in Happy Valley. The veteran passer, considered by many to be one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal this offseason, has thrown for 9,274 yards and 64 TD as a quarterback at Iowa State. Penn State will be losing Drew Allar, who has run out of eligibility. Ethan Grunkemeyer, who finished the 2025 season as Penn State’s starting quarterback following a season-ending injury to Allar, entered the transfer portal. Penn State also saw Bekkem Kritza and Jaxon Smolik enter the transfer portal.

Penn State is also adding a couple of quarterbacks in the Class of 2026, including four-star Peyton Falzone and three-star Kase Evans (who previously signed with Iowa State in the early signing period). Becht will be a much-needed veteran leader for the team as it undergoes a coaching transition. With Becht having one final year of eligibility, he will serve as a perfect transition from one offensive system to the next at Penn State.

Becht will certainly be surrounded by a number of familiar faces. Penn State has added Iowa State assistants Jake Waters (quarterbacks coach) and Taylor Mouser (offensive coordinator) to the coaching staff for the same roles, which will give Becht some comfort easing into the new surroundings. Penn State has also received a transfer commitment from one of Becht’s top passing targets, tight end Benjamin Brahmer.
