And then there were 12.
Penn State’s football Class of 2026 is still bleeding prospects, and, surely, James Franklin’s move to Virginia Tech will only accelerate this process. For now, we will re-arrange deck chairs on the Titanic and provide updates on who’s still committed to the Nittany Lions.
The top recruit in Penn State’s class, four-star safety Matt Sieg, played the final game of his illustrious high school career last week. Although he rushed for two touchdowns and 152 yards, defending champs Fort Cherry (McDonald, PA) stumbled in the WPIAL Class A semifinals. He also, somehow, had an impressive catch, highlighting some of the ball skills that make him an oustanding prospect as a defensive back.
Sieg, who is still shopping around as a recruit, finishes his high school career as one of the best players in WPIAL history. He finished his career as the league’s all-time leader in offensive all-purpose yards and touchdowns. He also tacked on 14 interceptions throughout his career.
Speaking of guys making highlights in odd places, four-star running back Messiah Mickens opened up scoring in Harrisburg’s (PA) blowout win with a pick-six. He also rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown while making three tackles for loss on defense
Mickens’ Cougars now advance to the PIAA District 3 Class 6A championship against Central York (York, PA). They currently hold a perfect 12-0 record.
Four-star defensive lineman Jackson Ford now has a senior season highlight tape up after Malvern Prep’s (Malvern, PA) season came to a close. He’s still sitting around 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, so it’s not quite clear where he’ll play at the next level, but my money would still be on defensive end.
Although Ford has received new offers from schools like USF and Appalachian State, he notably never reopened his recruitment or de-committed from Penn State in the wake of Franklin’s firing.
Four-star linebacker Terry Wiggins had a splash play on offense in Coatesville’s (PA) playoff loss to Pennridge (Perkasie, PA). He outran the cameraman.
Wiggins’ full-game highlights are available on his Hudl page.
