Penn State football fired up ESPN personality Kirk Herbstreit ahead of Matt Campbell’s debut. Rocco Becht fueled further hype with taking the reins behind center for the Nittany Lions. Yet Becht knew Koby Howard was the one due for a breakout afternoon against Marshall.
The ex-Iowa State QB raved about Bryant’s 161-yard outing in the 45-0 rout of the Thundering Herd.
“That guy comes to work every single day,” Becht shared with reporters postgame. “I’ve been saying it for the last six months; it got shown today what he’s able to do with the ball in his hands.”

Howard set the tone right away, with Becht finding him all alone for the first touchdown.

So Howard proved he can ignite Campbell’s offense out the gate. But he showed his mad hops and concentration on this long grab.

Howard even pulled off the reception fighting with the sun in his eyes and still hauled down the catch.
Yet Campbell revealed that Howard’s blockbuster day looked bound to happen anyway. He detailed the work ethic of his new rising top wideout.
“It’s 5:15 in the morning and the first guy in the facility catching jugs is Koby Howard,” Campbell shared to reporters postgame.
Howard refuse to dip into the College Football Transfer Portal once Campbell got hired as head coach. And he came fresh off catching only seven passes for 133 yards playing for previous HC James Franklin.
But now Campbell found ways to utilize him, while Becht showed comfort in feeding him the football. Penn State witnessed a new star emerge, out of a seldom used weapon from last season. Howard opened the offense up right away and handed Campbell the first of what fans believe will be many victories at PSU.
