Penn State football's Chaz Coleman to enter the transfer portal

Penn State football is set to lose one of its premier young stars as freshman defensive end Chaz Coleman announced he's entering the transfer portal on Jan. 2.
Coleman, a Warren, Ohio, native and a 4-star prospect as a recruit, recorded eight total tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in nine games during the 2025 season.

Coleman is third player to reportedly enter the portal, joining reserve tight end Joey Schlaffer and cornerback Elliot Washington, but he's the biggest name so far that plans to leave State College.
His departure is a significant blow to incoming head coach Matt Campbell and his staff, who are now challenged with retaining players as they transition to Happy Valley. Coleman will certainly be a hot commodity by many programs, including his home state Ohio State Buckeyes.
While this likely isn't the last departure from Penn State, there's also the chance some players from Campbell's former program at Iowa State will follow him to his new digs. That said, no player from the Cylcones will arrive with the same pedigree as Coleman.
