As if Penn State’s defensive line was not going to have enough gaps to fill in 2026, one more player has reportedly decided to jump in the NCAA transfer portal. Jaylen Harvey, coming off his redshirt freshman season wiht the Nittany Lions, will explore his options when the transfer window opens.
Harvey confirmed the reporting of his intent to enter the transfer portal by sharing an image from On3 on his social media accounts. Harvey will have three years of eligibility remaining. Harvey ends his time at Penn State on a high note with a critical sack in Penn State’s Pinstripe Bowl victory over Clemson. The former Class of 2024 recruit made appearances in nine games for the Nittany Lions during the 2025 season.
Harvey is among 14 players confirmed to be heading to the transfer portal to explore their new options. Harvey joins fellow defensive linemen Xavier Gilliam, Zuriah Fisher, and Chaz Coleman in the transfer portal. Penn State is also losing defensive line coach Deion Barnes to a job at South Carolina. It may be worth monitoring South Carolina’s interest in any of Penn State’s defensive linemen in the portal.
The NCAA transfer portal opens from January 2 through January 16. During that time, any player in the transfer portal may explore their opportunities elsewhere and commit to a new school. Once the transfer window closes, no transfers will be possible until the following offseason. There is no more spring transfer window. The only exceptions are for schools in the College Football Playoff and if there is a coaching change at any school. Teams in the playoff have a transfer window of an additional five days following the final game played by that school.
