Penn State makes some positional changes

The Penn State Nittany Lions will be making some positional changes for the football team next season that involve a former Penn State legend’s son and a move from the offensive line to the defensive front for a sophomore.
Unfortunately for LaVar Arrington II, he will not be following in his father’s footsteps, as he will be making a switch from the linebacker position to defensive end. This move may have come down to him not seeing many snaps at the position, only getting some on special teams instead. This could help him carve out a new role, especially as he burns his redshirt. For a young room as well, that does not have much experience, it will give him a chance to compete at a high level for a new role.
As for the other switch, it may be a bit more unusual for Nittany Lions fans to digest. Caleb Brewer, formerly an offensive lineman, will be making a move to the defensive line as well. The plan for Penn State is to put him somewhere at tackle. While the tackle room is deep, the hope is that Brewer’s offensive line skills will help translate to a new position. He also will be the youngest player in the room, as a redshirt sophomore, so he will have a chance to learn under an experienced core group.
For new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, this bodes well for his new-look defense. Penn State has a solid track record of developing top-notch players on the defensive line, especially off the edge. These position moves could pay off in the long run for the new coaching staff taking over a program, working on bouncing back in a hurry. If nothing else, it makes for something to watch during spring football practices and the spring game in late April.
