It has been an interesting journey for 2027 Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy quarterback Peter Bourque, who is considered to be one of the very best signal callers in the country. The Massachusetts standout was once committed to the Michigan Wolverines, but the fallout from the Sherrone Moore dismissal allowed the four-star to evaluate other options.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have been a consistent figure in Bourque’s recruitment, but they also faded after the firing of head coach James Franklin during this past season. Since Matt Campbell took over, things have been trending back in a great direction. The Nittany Lions have been considered the leader now for several weeks.

Penn State appears to be heading toward some great news in the near future. Steve Wiltfong from the Rivals network logged an expert prediction for Bourque to land with the Nittany Lions. It would be a tremendous addition for Campbell and Co., potentially landing the face of their organization down the road.

From a pure talent perspective, there is a lot to love about Bourque and his potential fit with Penn State. With Rocco Becht finishing up his eligibility next season, there is going to be an opportunity to potentially come in and play early. Bourque is the type of advanced passer who could make a somewhat seamless transition if the need was there.

Peter Bourque’s recruiting background

Bourque is considered to be a consensus four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Bourque is currently ranked as the No. 76 overall player, the No. 6 quarterback, and the No. 1 player from the state of Massachusetts for the 2027 recruiting class. Each platform ranks Bourque inside the top 125 overall players in the class.

As good as Bourque’s recruiting rankings are, his offer list might be even better. Some of his top offers include the Nittany Lions, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miami, Michigan State, NC State, UNC, Colorado, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Arkansas, Washington, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Maryland, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and UCLA, among several others.

As a junior at Tabor Academy in 2025, Bourque put together a tremendous season. In nine games, the 6-4, 220-pound pocket passer managed to throw for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns. Bourque also rushed for 688 yards and 15 more scores on the ground, averaging a stellar 8.6 yards per carry. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts for his efforts.
