Penn State football drew fan intrigue for its primetime showdown against USC. Fans strolled into Beaver Stadium rocking their “white out” attire. And eventually shattered an attendance record on Saturday.
The Big Ten Conference showdown lured out 114,419 total fans inside the venue, setting a new record per Daniel Gallen of 247Sports.
Those fans watched a nail biter against the No. 19 Trojans, which came in at 5-1 overall. Penn State and head coach Matt Campbell even overcame one element of surprise: A botched onside kick attempt by USC fall into the Nittany Lions’ hands.

But PSU struggled to contain true freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley, who originally was a game-time decision. Mosley, who sat out the first three conference games with a right knee injury, caught nine passes for 112 yards before the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter. Mosley even silenced the crowd on this contested catch grab that helped lead to USC’s more recent touchdown.

Quarterback Jayden Maiava proceeded to hit wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt for a 10-yard touchdown to place USC up 31-23 late in the fourth. Maiava surpassed the 300-yard mark on that drive too, hitting 301 yards while completing 21-of-32 passing. Mosley joined fellow receivers Dixon-Wyatt and Tanook Hines in crossing the end zone.
But the PSU fans who formed the “White Out” stayed in their seats the whole time. Penn State started putting together a long drive in response to the Dixon-Wyatt touchdown, including converting a fourth-and-three with quarterback Rocco Becht completing a short pass to tight end Andrew Rappleyea.
