When Penn State relieved former head coach James Franklin of his duties back in October, it shook up the recruiting board in a big way. Many players who had been lined up beyond 2026 decided to decommit, while others followed Franklin to Virginia Tech.

The Nittany Lions have begun reconstructing the pieces of their future, securing a couple of commitments in the last few days. They’ve been hosting high school prospects at their spring practices with the hopes of securing some more commitments, one of them being three-star cornerback Zachary Gleason Jr. from the class of 2027.

Gleason Jr. had offers from both Penn State and Virginia Tech, creating one of the first battles between Franklin and his former school. Now, the Nittany Lions will have some bragging rights after Hayes Fawcett of Rivals announced that Gleason Jr. is committing to Penn State. The Pittsburgh native had offers from numerous schools, but ultimately decided to remain in his home state.

Gleason Jr. becomes the second cornerback to commit to Penn State in the last week from the class of 2027. The 6-0 defensive back improved significantly from his sophomore year to his junior season, amassing 43 tackles, four tackles for loss, three interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble, and a pick-six to top it all off. Gleason Jr. will be a nice ball-hawking presence in the secondary alongside Semajay Robinson in 2027, assuming everything goes according to plan.
