Penn State Transfer Wide Receiver Poised for Breakout Season

One of the many Iowa State transfers to Penn State is going to be called upon to be a major contributor in their first year as a Nittany Lion. 

Some of them come to Penn State with a lot of experience, while others come to Happy Valley with little to no experience at all. 

For the most part, Penn State's offense is going to be all transplants. Six of the 11 starters on the offensive side of the football are transfers, and many of them have come with Matt Campbell from Iowa State. 

Quarterback, two wide receivers, running backs, and three of the five offensive linemen are all new and all ready for a new opportunity. While many of them are going to have a good year, wide receiver Brett Eskildsen is my prediction to have a breakout season.

Eskildsen is fresh off his best season in 2025. In a year that Iowa State's passing attack struggled to get off the ground for the most part, Eskildsen was a bright spot. He finished the year playing in 12 games, hauling in 30 catches and registering 526 yards and five touchdowns.

He was averaging an astonishing 17.5 yards per catch, which is huge for any receiver, let alone a guy getting his first chance as a second or third option.

Eskildsen stands at 6'1", weighing in right around 190- 200 pounds. He majored in the slot position but has the body type to win on the outside. There is still a lot of mystery to his game, and he is going to be a guy that teams have to find out how to stop. 

He will have an opportunity early on to get his feet under him in a brand new environment inside Beaver Stadium. Games against Marshall, Temple, and Buffalo will be an incredible chance to gain some confidence.

Then, when Big Ten play begins, it is on. If Eskildsen has elevated his game to a point where he can become a legitimate wide receiver one, he would answer the prayers of many Nittany Lions fans across many generations.

Penn State has been yearning for a player like that, and maybe, just maybe, Eskildsen could be their short- and long-term answer to their prayers. Time will tell, but Eskildsen is my pick for the new Nittany Lions that I believe will have a breakout season.
