Penn State WR Says Offense Feels Like a 'Video Game'

Tradition is a big thing at Penn State, and while the standard hasn't exactly been met over the first two games of Matt Campbell's time with the Nittany Lions, I do believe that he's the guy who is going to get this program back to that standard. 

Ultimately, Campbell and his team have done what they've had to do, sitting at 2-0, but we all know that Penn State isn't playing the type of football that we expect out of this program. 

At the end of the day, this team has a real opportunity to make some noise because its schedule is so easy, but it still has to play much better football. 

That's something the players and coaching staff have spoken about recently, including wide receiver Chase Sowell, who started his career at Colorado before transferring to East Carolina and Iowa State, ultimately finishing at Penn State.

“We want to walk off the field and for them to be like, ‘Yeah, that’s the standard of what we need to play. That’s what Penn State football is,'” Sowell said, per Onward State. “We’re playing for the standard. We’re not playing for the scoreboard.”

Penn State hasn't been bad to start the year, and Sowell has been a nice player. 

He currently has seven receptions for 91 yards, including a touchdown. He's averaging 13 yards per catch and is expected to be a nice player in this offense after a 500-yard season at Iowa State last year. 

Speaking about the offense, he actually likes everything he's seen from it in the passing game. The bigger worry continues to be how Penn State looks on the ground.

“It’s definitely like a video game type feeling. You get on the video game, and all you want to run is four verticals.” Sowell said. “It’s very fun to play in an offense where you kind of let the ball fly around a little bit.”

Sowell obviously isn't part of the problem in terms of the run game, but the passing game continuing to impress will hopefully open up the run at some point over the next couple of games. 

With Big Ten play starting after this week, Penn State really needs that to happen.
