Peoria High running back Detaurion Pollard commits to Western Illinois

Detaurion Pollard is off to Macomb. The Peoria High senior running back announced on social media Monday his commitment to Western Illinois, joining the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program located 70 miles southwest of Peoria. Pollard held five other offers from teams ranging from the NAIA to the Division II level.

During his senior season, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder helped lead Peoria High to a 9-3 overall record, a Big 12 Conference co-championship and a run to the Class 5A quarterfinals. Pollard rushed for 1,647 yards and 16 TDs on 234 carries for an offense that scored 48.7 points a game. He was also an all-Big 12 Conference offense first team back.
Pollard will join fellow all-area selection and Manual senior wide receiver MaKai Hill as part of the Leathernecks incoming freshman class.
WIU finished 2025 at 4-8 overall and 3-5 in Ohio Valley/Big South play. The Leathernecks will open their 2026 season at home against Northwestern (Iowa) College on Aug. 27.
