It’s pretty safe to say that Notre Dame Nation was not happy about Alabama jumping the Irish in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

Not only did it give Notre Dame concerns about being included in the 12-team field, but it also continued the idea that the committee is pushing certain teams and conferences to be included for reasons unknown to us. The Irish are having to fight the narrative, and athletic director Pete Bevacqua did exactly that on Friday afternoon.

He joined Pat McAfee along with analyst Kirk Herbstreit and explained by Notre Dame deserves to be in the playoff along with why the Crimson Tide jumped them and which games to watch this weekend. Bevacqua said the SEC Championship game with Alabama and Georgia is one to see and are actively rooting for Texas Tech over BYU in the Big 12 Championship game.

However, the biggest comments came as Bevacqua let everyone know “we think we still should be ninth, quite frankly. We’ve made that known to the committee.” This is fantastic in my eyes, as this is exactly what he should be doing. It’s hard to say if other athletic directors are taking the same approach, if Bevacqua has the platform, he’s going to champion for Notre Dame.
