Ole Miss football coach Pete Golding did not give a specific injury update on running back Kewan Lacy for the Rebels’ Sugar Bowl game vs Georgia in the CFP quarterfinals.
Lacy was injured twice against Tulane in Ole Miss‘ first-round win vs Tulane.
When asked about the status of the team’s health in relation to Lacy and other players who were injured against Tulane, Golding said they were still “working through that.”
“Obviously, several of those guys came back in the game after the injury occured, so I’m not feeling any issues on those, but we’re still working through some of the other ones,” Golding said on Dec. 22.
Lacy’s status comes into question as the No. 6 seed Rebels (12-1) prepare to face No. 3 Georgia (12-1) in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals on Jan. 1 (7 p.m. CT, ESPN).
Lacy, the Rebels’ starting running back and second-leading rusher in the SEC, left the game with 1:40 left before the end of the first half with a left shoulder injury but returned to start the third quarter. However, later in the period, Lacy appeared to reaggravate the injury and exited the game for good.
He finished with 87 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries and caught one pass for 7 yards in the 41-10 win. Golding called Lacy’s injury a “bruised shoulder” postgame.
Lacy, a transfer from Missouri, has 1,366 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns on the season. He also caught 26 passes for 161 yards. He was named to the All-SEC first team.
Logan Diggs and Damien Taylor are the running backs listed behind Lacy on the depth chart. They combined for 36 yards on eight carries against Tulane. Diggs scored a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Other Ole Miss players injured vs. Tulane
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss also exited the Rebels’ win over Tulane late in the second quarter. He returned in the third quarter after being evaluated for a concussion.
Safety Wydett Williams Jr. and tight end Caleb Odom exited in the second and third quarters, respectively. Williams did not return due to entering concussion protocol, and Odom also remained out with an undisclosed injury.
