Pete Golding, Ole Miss Dealt Unfortunate News After College Football Season

The Ole Miss Rebels seemed to be in a prime position to land one of the most coveted pass-catchers in the transfer portal, with industry experts Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong of On3 predicting Pete Golding to land him.

Instead, the Rebels came up short in the chase of former Texas wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. as he committed to the Colorado Buffaloes on Tuesday, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

According to 247Sports, Moore was the No. 5-ranked wideout in the portal and No. 19 overall player available. Ole Miss was considered one of his final contenders alongside Kentucky and the Buffaloes.

“Ole Miss is also in the picture for Moore,” On3’s Steve Wiltfong reported before the announcement, noting that Moore ranked No. 43 overall among all transfer players in On3’s rankings.

The 6-foot, 192-pound receiver spent three seasons at Texas, where he totaled 77 receptions for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2025, he appeared in 11 games, logging 38 catches for 532 yards and four scores while playing alongside quarterback Arch Manning.

Now heading to the Big 12, Moore joins a Colorado team that lost multiple starters at the wide receiver position this cycle and is expected to turn to redshirt freshman Julian Lewis at quarterback next season.

Moore was a four-star prospect coming out of St. John Bosco High School in California, where he originally committed to Oklahoma in Sept. 2021 before flipping to Louisville in May 2022, and ultimately signing with Texas in Dec. 2022.

The new Buffaloes wideout was listed by 247Sports Composite as the No. 105 overall recruit in his class and played in both the Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff during his time with the Longhorns.

For Ole Miss, the loss comes one day after the program landed Kentucky transfer Cameron Miller. Still, Moore was viewed as a legitimate candidate to take over the WR1 role in Golding’s offense, making Tuesday’s announcement a notable miss for the Rebels’ 2026 outlook.

Colorado’s portal class now ranks 18th nationally in On3’s rankings, while Ole Miss’ clocks in at seventh.
