Louisville football director of recruiting Pete Nochta will join Will Stein's staff at Kentucky, a source confirmed to The Courier Journal.

Nochta played tight end for Louisville from 2006-10, overlapping with Stein's stint as quarterback from 2008-12. Nochta served as a graduate assistant and tight ends coach at Purdue from 2011-13, then became the tight ends coach at Western Kentucky before returning to Louisville in 2014.

Since then, Nochta worked as a tight end/full backs coach as a graduate assistant for his alma mater and has been a member of the program's recruiting staff since 2016.

Nochta's exit for Lexington comes six months after former UK associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow left the Wildcats to join Jeff Brohm's Louisville staff as the program's first ever general manager.

Will Stein's Kentucky football staff

Stein is hiring Pat Biondo as UK's general manager, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. Stein and Biondo worked together at Oregon, with Biondo serving as the program's director of recruiting strategy.

Former LSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan is expected to be the Wildcats' new OC. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Sloan will be the play caller and Stein's first on-field hire. While in Baton Rouge, Sloan coached Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. In 2024, LSU's offense ranked among the top 10 nationally in passing offense and among the top 25 in total offense.

There had previously been reports that UTSA OC Justine Burke would join Stein's staff as offensive coordinator. Burke is from Lexington and played quarterback for Lexington Catholic, where he won the state's Gatorade Player of the Year Award as a senior. He and Stein played together at Louisville.
