If Pitt football is going to compete for an ACC championship this season, it will probably need to defeat Virginia Tech on the road Friday night. And if the Panthers are going to complete that objective, they will probably need their 2025 rushing leader. Fortunately, sophomore running back Ja’Kyrian Turner is expected to play versus the Hokies, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The explosive ball-carrier has been sidelined with an injury since Week 2, but the offense has managed to get by in his absence. Though, with conference play set to intensify, Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi will want a full arsenal in the backfield. Turner still needs to get the official green light, but it appears he will be active in Blacksburg.

The Wildwood, Florida native ran the ball 140 times for 745 yards and seven touchdowns last season, helping the program earn an 8-5 record. Now, amid a 4-0 Panthers start, he is hoping to lift this offense over the top. Turner may need a little time to get comfortable against Virginia Tech, however.

The Hokies are allowing only 83.3 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC. Quarterback Mason Heintschel may have to take some of the pressure off his RB.

It remains to be seen if Ja’Kyrian Turner will operate on a snap count, but if he is on the field, Virginia Tech should be vigilant. The Hokies scored on their first drive, so Pitt football might have to march right into the fire.

The stakes are high, and so is the energy inside Lane Stadium.
