The Coloradoan is proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes.
With the 2025 football season in the rearview, this will be a special edition of our weekly awards.
Here, you can vote on the top Fort Collins-area football player from this past fall. All five players were all-state selections in their classifications and helped lead their respective teams to outstanding seasons.
You can find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Voting is open until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 21, with the winner announced Dec. 22 at coloradoan.com/sports.
Meet the Blue FCU Football Player of the Year nominees:
- Mason Bandhauer, Fort Collins OL: The Lambkins senior left tackle practically took away half the field for defenses, propelling a Fort Collins offense that averaged nearly 40 points per game. Bandhaeur (an Iowa State signee) paved the way for Colorado's leading rusher and anchored a line that allowed just 12 sacks all season.
- Adrian Czyszczon, Windsor RB: The Wizards running back just kept churning through defenders all fall. Czyszczon led all of Class 3A with 1,702 rushing yards while averaging 6.2 yards per carry with 24 total touchdowns. He was at his best in the playoffs, scoring 7 TDs in four 100+ yard efforts, including 249 yards and the go-ahead score in Windsor's semifinal win over Holy Family.
- Tanner Gray, Wellington QB/DE: Gray was arguably the top two-way player in Northern Colorado, winning 2A Player of the Year while leading the Eagles to a dominant 2A title. On offense, the Nevada signee had over 1,700 total yards with 32 TDs to just four turnovers. He may have been better on defense, compiling 63 tackles (24 for loss), nine sacks, 30 QB hurries and a playoff pick-six interception.
- Jack McKeon, Fort Collins RB: It was a legendary season for McKeon, who finished as Colorado's leading rusher across all classes. The senior racked up 2,197 rushing yards at 7.3 yards a carry, leading Class 5A by nearly 600 yards. McKeon had 100+ yards in 11 of 12 games, scored in all 12 and ran for a program-record 370 yards with 4 TDs in a playoff win over ThunderRidge.
- Deacon Schmitt, Windsor OL: The Oklahoma signee was dominant, playing with an edge that set the tone for the 3A runner-up on offense. At right tackle, Schmitt mauled defenders and paved wide open real estate for a rushing attack that piled up 3,586 yards and steadily churned the Wizards to 35 points per game in a 13-1 season.
