Predicting ACC football scores in Week 6: FSU looks to keep momentum vs. Louisville

Week 6 of the college football season is here, and while there aren’t any ranked matchups this week in the ACC, there are some key games. The biggest one will take place down in Louisville. The Cardinals are reeling, while Florida State is quietly looking like a football team.

In other news, Pitt is ranked for the first time this season, and will take on a North Carolina team that has lost its last two games. It will also mark the Panthers’ first game without star quarterback Mason Heintschel.

Here is how every ACC game could play out this weekend.

Florida State vs. Louisville

NCAA Football: Virginia at Florida State

After looking like one of the nation’s hottest teams, Louisville has suddenly lost two in a row with a 2-3 record. Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz is listed as probable for the game on Saturday, and a nursing injury doesn’t bode well for Louisville.

Louisville is very much like Jekyll and Hyde. The Cardinals have the No. 2 offense in the ACC, but the second-to-last defense, which bodes well for Florida State. The Seminoles are coming off a big win over Virginia, and head coach Mike Norvell has some life.

Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels has emerged as a true running threat, along with being a capable passer. This game is in Louisville, and while Kienholz is likely to play, you have to wonder if he’s close to 100%. Louisville is reeling, and FSU is not.

Final score: Florida State 31, Louisville 30

North Carolina vs. No. 25 Pitt

After a 2-0 start, North Carolina has suffered back-to-back losses. Style points do not matter, but the Tar Heels were one lightning delay away from beating Clemson, and North Carolina put up a respectable fight against Notre Dame last weekend.

Both North Carolina and Pitt enter the game with good defenses, but the Panthers have had an electric offense. However, star quarterback Mason Heintschel was lost to a season-ending injury against Virginia Tech, and Pitt will start Holden Geriner.

This won’t be the same Panthers’ offense we are used to seeing, unless Geriner shocks everyone. Pitt is going to need to rely on its defense to win games.

Final score: Pitt 24, North Carolina 21

Duke vs. Georgia Tech

NCAA Football: William & Mary at Duke

It’s shocking how poorly Georgia Tech has played this season. The Yellow Jackets are 1-3, and things won’t be easy this weekend against the undefeated Duke Blue Devils. Georgia Tech’s defense gives up way too many points, and the offense stalls too much.

Duke won’t come in and light up the scoreboard, but the Blue Devils play sound defense and have the nation’s top running back. Nate Sheppard has rushed for 644 yards and six touchdowns in four games.

This game might be in Georgia, but Duke has the best player between the two teams, and the running game should travel.

Final score: Duke 34, Georgia Tech 27

The rest of the games will be quick-hitter style:

  • NC State 31, Wake Forest 28
  • No. 3 Notre Dame 44, Stanford 10
  • Virginia Tech 34, Cal 24
  • Virginia 38, Syracuse 17
