Predicting where Ohio State football will land in CFP bracket

Ohio State will enter the College Football Playoff with a 12-1 record after falling to Indiana 13-10 in the Big Ten title game on Dec. 6.

Quarterback Julian Sayin finished with 258 passing yards, a touchdown pass to Carnell Tate and an interception. Fellow Heisman contender Fernando Mendoza had 222 passing yards for Indiana, a touchdown and earned MVP honors.

The loss was the Buckeyes' first since November 2024, and they are still a lock for the playoff.

College Football Playoff bracket predictions for Ohio State football

Here is the most likely CFP bracket scenario for the Buckeyes.

OSU football gets No. 4 seed

After holding the No. 1 seed in the previous five rankings, Ohio State should remain near the top of the bracket despite the loss.

The Buckeyes' 12-0 record in the regular season is enough to earn them a first-round bye, with victories over No. 13 Texas and No. 19 Michigan on their resume. Through those 12 games, Ohio State's defense ranked No. 1 in the country, allowing 7.8 points per game while giving up just 81.67 rushing yards and 121.3 passing yards.

Ohio State will likely be the highest-ranked team without a conference title in the playoffs, slotting in behind Indiana, Georgia and Texas Tech.

Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes beat Oregon in last season's Rose Bowl 41-21.

OSU football will face Oregon

If the Buckeyes land as the No. 4 seed, they'll face the winner of the matchup between the No. 5 seed and the No. 12 seed, which will likely be Oregon vs Tulane.

With Alabama (facing Georgia in the SEC championship) and BYU (against Texas Tech in the Big 12) losing their Dec. 6 games by 21 and 27 points, respectively, Oregon will hold onto the No. 5 spot it took in the latest playoff rankings.

As long as Oregon holds off Tulane, who earned a trip to the playoffs as the American Conference champion, the Buckeyes will have a 2024 playoff rematch on their hands. At last season's Rose Bowl, Ohio State upset the No. 1-seeded Ducks 41-21.
