Vincent let Piedmont know it meant business early when Daniel Mims scored on a 76-yard run 30 seconds into Friday’s contest at Harold Garrett Stadium.

The battle-tested Bulldogs were hardly fazed, however, rattling off 48 unanswered points to down the Bulldogs 48-6.

Senior running back Jaxson Howard did the heavy lifting for Piedmont, finishing with 189 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. He scored on runs of 41, 7 and 9 yards.

Junior wide receiver Carson Cleveland added an 8-yard touchdown run.

The Bulldogs also scored twice on special teams. After a fourth-down snap sailed over the head of Vincent’s punter, senior linebacker Carson Sanders recovered the ball in the end zone. Piedmont later got an 80-yard punt return touchdown from junior defensive back Aliandre Wright.

Backup quarterback Isaiah Pinto capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Mitch Hanson.

Junior quarterback Cole Austin completed 6 of 11 passes for 84 yards and added 38 rushing yards on five carries.

Senior wide receiver Eli Johnson hauled in a 40-yard reception from Austin, and junior tight end Ethan Tidwell added three catches for 37 yards.

Cleveland finished with two carries for 14 yards and added one catch for 2 yards. Junior wide receiver Mason Morrow rushed for 10 yards on two carries and added a 5-yard reception.

Next Friday, Piedmont (8-1, 6-0 in Class 2A, Region 6) will travel to Wellborn for a rivalry showdown with the region championship on the line.
